818 Aejo Tequila is produced by Kendall Jenners 818 brand at Casa Maestri (NOM 1438) in Jalisco, Mexico 100% Blue Weber agave aged 14 months in American oak barrels, then finished in wine barrels. 818 is named for the area code of Jenners hometown of Calabasas, California. The brand won multiple awards on launch including gold at the SIP International Consumer Spirits Competition.
At 14 months, the 818 Aejo sits near the minimum aejo aging threshold (12 months required by regulation) but the dual maturation American oak followed by wine barrel finish adds complexity typical of longer-aged expressions. The wine barrel finish contributes light red fruit and tannin notes to the vanilla and caramel profile from the American oak primary aging.
Nose: Vanilla, caramel, cooked agave, and light wine barrel fruit. Palate: Smooth and sweet caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, and subtle red fruit from the wine finish. Finish: Warm and approachable.
