The Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength is one of those rare modern releases that feels both like a throwback and a genuine step forward. Long whispered about since its early 2000s debut in Japan, this legendary expression finally arrives in full force, showcasing Ardbegs famously muscular style at an uncut 61.7% ABV. Unlike the distillerys traditional filling strength, typically 63.5%, these casks were laid down at their natural undiluted proof right off the still, capturing an uncompromising vision of Islay peat in its rawest and most thrilling form. Matured for a full decade in American oak, the whisky opens with a dense aromatic wave of tar, creosote, coffee grounds, and sea spray, underscored by subtle flashes of vanilla and citrus. On the palate, the texture is massive and mouth-filling, balancing immediate sweetness with smoked spices before rolling into towering layers of soot, peat moss, and woodsmoke, all anchored by a gentle malty core. The finish is unmistakably Ardbeg, cooling and persistent with notes of eucalyptus and menthol.
