Averell Damson Gin Liqueur is an exceptionally bright gin liqueur fresh-pressed juice of heirloom Damson Plums married to a botanical gin marked by juniper, warm winter spices, bay leaf, and ginger. Designed for service with seltzer, sparkling wine, or ginger beer, in hot or cold black tea, or simply on its own over ice. The Damson plum is an endangered heirloom variety with a nervy character rich, intensely tart, and slightly bitter grown today by stubborn farmers maintaining its bygone-era cultivation tradition.
The Damson plum dates to the dawn of civilization, prized by the Romans and Crusaders, with its cultivation spreading throughout Europe and to colonial-era North American settlers. The early-20th-century golden age of American fruit and vegetable propagation introduced over 7,500 new varieties (catalogued as watercolors by government-commissioned artists), but post-war commercial farming forced most into extinction. Imported by Haus Alpenz the producer-importer dedicated to preserving distinctive and authentic regional spirits and wines for the ambitious palate.
