Bacardi’s distillation in Puerto Rico uses column still distillation and then proprietary charcoal filtration the Cuatro extends this process with four years of American oak aging that develops the golden amber color and the dried fruit and spice complexity that the unaged Bacardi Superior doesn’t have. The charcoal filtration after aging removes astringency and polishes the spirit without stripping the oak-derived character, producing the smooth, mellow finish. Classic paired with ginger ale as the brand suggests, but versatile enough for any premium rum application.
