Balcones Mirador Texas Single Malt is a second-fill barrel malt profile whisky from Balcones Distilling in Waco, Texas a blend of whiskies ranging from under 2 years to almost 5 years in age, with all maturation in used (second-fill) casks for a softer oak presence than expressions of comparable age in new oak.
By aging in used casks, Mirador lets the underlying malt character lead, with the wood serving as a frame rather than the dominant flavor. The result is a softer, more malt-forward Texas single malt than the brands heavily new-oak-driven core releases.
