Bladnoch 14 Year Old is a Lowland single malt from Scotlands most southerly distillery Bladnoch in Dumfries & Galloway, close to the English border, producing a delicate, floral, and fruity Lowland style matured for 14 years in a combination of American oak and Oloroso sherry casks.
Bladnoch was mothballed multiple times in its history and most recently rescued by Australian businessman David Prior in 2015 after a period of closure since 2009. The distillerys pre-closure stock forms the basis for the current age-stated range. The 14-year expression represents mature pre-closure stock fruit-forward, coastal, and delicate with the Oloroso sherry adding warmth and dried fruit complexity. Bladnoch has had a turbulent ownership history including extended closures in the 1990s and from 20092015. The Australian entrepreneur David Prior acquired it in 2015, began producing new spirit in 2017, and the current age-stated releases draw from pre-closure stock. Under current ownership Bladnoch has been significantly reinvested and repositioned.
The 14 Year Old draws from pre-closure stock spirit distilled before the 2009 closure. New spirit from the resumed distillation (post-2017) will require more time before reaching the same age statement.
