Bowmore occupies a distinctive position on Islay less heavily peated than the southern Kildalton distilleries (Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin) but more smoky than the northern Bunnahabhain. At 25 years the peat has integrated deeply with the sherry cask and coastal character, producing a complex and layered Islay expression where the smoke is a supporting rather than dominant element.
