During US Prohibition (19201933), Cutty Sark was shipped to the Bahamas by Bill McCoy a famous rum runner who became associated with the term the real McCoy for uncut, genuine spirit. The whiskys light colour made it easier to sell to a market accustomed to lighter spirits.
