The Northern Mixteca Alta is a rugged, sparsely populated highland region of northern Oaxaca where traditional mezcal production has continued in isolated villages for centuries without the influence of the commercial mezcal industry that transformed production in the central valleys. Del Maguey’s access to expressions from this remote zone represents years of relationship-building with producers who rarely interact with the outside spirits market.
