Raveneaus 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Clos, issuing from a rather windy, stony south-facing site in the middle of the climats slope, is another success. It wafts from the glass with a deep bouquet of beeswax, orange zest, pear and dried white flowers. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and multidimensional, with a concentrated core of fruit and a slightly more powerful profile than the other grands crus, concluding with a long, resonating finish. Although I presently give slight preference to the Valmur, time will tell which turns out to be a finer wine. With its strong record, its difficult to bet against Clos. Raveneau owns just 0.5 hectares of Les Clos; magic awaits those who will manage to secure a bottle or two and enjoy at its plenitude, some 15 years after the vintage. Domaine Raveneau is one of the greatest estates in Chablis. This small 10-hectare domaine is one among a handful of bastions of artisanal winemaking in a region that embraced industrial winemaking with open arms, and it remains a beacon for connoisseurs of classical white Burgundy all over the world. In the era of premature oxidation, Raveneaus wines have also emerged as some of the most dependable prospects for extended cellaring. A generational transition has been quietly effected: Bernard Raveneau retired on January 1, 2020, and was replaced by his daughter Isabelle; and Jean-Marie Raveneau retired on May 1, 2021, and was replaced by his son Maxime.

The 2023 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a beautiful bouquet with wonderfully delineated crushed stone, yellow flowers and orange blossom scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity and hints of white tea and chai fanning out beautifully toward the finish. The 2023 is divine.
