To produce batch 0322IRM of Manso, Isidros first in more than a decade, he had to source the plants from Jiquilpan, a town that is 4+ hours away, near the border with Jalisco.
Since 2016, the Mal Bien team has been traveling Mexico, driving off the map and into mountains filled with treacherous roads, police officers of questionable moral character, feral dogs, indigenous languages, narcos, ancient relics, machete wielding protestors, insect based meals, mudslides, blockades, corrupt politicians, and many of the worlds kindest, funniest, most brilliant people. In addition to some hard to believe stories, theyve connected with a wide variety of traditional producers, whose mezcal is now bottled and exported under the Mal Bien name.
A fragrant bouquet of smoke and earth, with hints of citrus zest, fresh herbs, and a touch of minerality that evokes the rugged landscape of Oaxaca. Rich and robust, with complex flavors of roasted agave, toasted wood, and earthy undertones, complemented by a subtle smokiness and a trace of sweet citrus. Long and smooth, with lingering notes of smokiness, peppery spice, and a slight vegetal sweetness.
