Licores Veracruz has been producing spirits in the Mexican state of Veracruz for over six decades. Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest rum-producing region sugarcane cultivation has thrived in its humid, subtropical coastal climate since the colonial era, and the state’s sugar estates grow cane that is hand-mashed rather than machine-processed in Mocambo’s pre-Hispanic production approach. The rum is distilled from a combination of molasses and sugarcane juice in column and pot stills, then aged in single barrels of European (Spanish) white oak rather than the American oak bourbon barrels used by most Caribbean producers.
