Rhum Clement Agricole Blanc. Habitation Clement, Le Franois, Martinique the entry white rhum from one of Martinique’s most historic estate distilleries, obtained exclusively from top-quality AOC Martinique sugarcane juice distilled in Charentais type stills, producing a transparent, crystalline appearance with a floral bouquet and white pulp fruit that closes on a toasted almond finish the ideal cocktail blanc for any application calling for genuine rhum agricole character.

Habitation Clement was founded in 1887 at Domaine de l’Acajou when Homre Clment transformed a failing Martinique sugar plantation into a pioneer of rhum agricole production distilling directly from freshly pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses, in the style of the great French brandies he had studied in Paris. Today, Clement produces its Blanc from the same AOC-certified fresh sugarcane juice grown on the estate, distilled in Charentais stills (the same copper pot still style used for cognac production in France) rather than the Crole column stills used by many other Martinique distilleries.

The Charentais still approach produces a different agricole character: less wildly funky and tropical than the column-distilled J.M. Blanc, more refined and floral, with white fruit, almond, and the clean sugarcane sweetness that Clement’s terroir creates. The result is a blanc agricole with genuine character and versatility equally at home in a Ti’ Punch, a Daiquiri, or any cocktail where AOC Martinique rhum character is called for.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Transparent and crystalline. Floral bouquet with white pulp fruit approachable and clean with the Clement house style’s refinement and elegance.
  • Palate: Sweet and soft with white fruit and floral character from the Charentais still distillation. Genuine sugarcane sweetness without heaviness. Good viscosity and weight for cocktail integration.
  • Finish: Toasted almond a distinctive Clement Blanc signature that adds a pleasant, nutty close to the floral and fruit-driven profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does Rhum Clement Blanc taste like? Floral bouquet and white pulp fruit on the nose. Sweet and soft on the palate with white fruit, floral character, and genuine sugarcane sweetness. Toasted almond finish.
  • What are Charentais stills? The copper pot still style used for cognac production in France’s Charente region. Clement uses them rather than the column stills typical of most Martinique distilleries, producing a more refined, floral, and complex blanc with less industrial column-still lightness and more traditional pot still character.
  • What cocktails work best with Rhum Clement Blanc? Ti’ Punch the classic Martinique cocktail where the agricole character is the entire point. Also excellent in a Daiquiri, Mojito, or any cocktail calling for AOC Martinique blanc. The floral and almond notes integrate beautifully in fruit-forward applications.
  • How does Clement Blanc compare to J.M Blanc? J.M Blanc is distilled from volcanic Macouba terroir cane in Crole column stills more tropical, funky, and explosively fruity. Clement Blanc uses Charentais pot stills more refined, floral, and almond-forward. Both are AOC Martinique agricole; both are exceptional; the choice comes down to cocktail style and personal preference.
