Tenuta di Ghizzano Nambrot 2016

A great red Super Tuscan! This Nambrot from the quality winery Tenuta di Ghizzano is the beautiful result of years of research & development by the winery. The Nambrot was first made in 1996 using Merlot grapes and has evolved over the years into a blend together with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This balanced wine fully demonstrates the power, warmth, and character that this beautiful territory can express. The wine was named after the founder of the Venerosi family, whose name was Nambrot, and who lived in the year 830.

The Supertuscan Nambrot is the Pomerol of Tuscany and is made from exactly the same grapes as a Pomerol.

Tenuta di Ghizzano is located in Ghizzano, close to the Tuscan coast, about 40 km from Livorno and 40 km south of Pisa. The area is also called Colline Pisane (hills of Pisa). The wine estate is biologically certified and biodynamic with an age-old history and is famous for its terroir-driven wines. People do not like artificial tricks and believe that the condition for a good wine should be the vineyard, so a top wine comes from a top vineyard. The wines of Tenuta di Ghizzano are all gems and of a high standard and that is also unanimously confirmed by the wine critics. This Nambrot is another gem. The vineyards where he comes from are located in Peccioli (Pisa) and are approximately 180 to 200 meters above sea level with a south-westerly location. As befits a good biological and biodynamic winery, these vineyards are also surrounded by the Tenuta di Ghizzano winery with the utmost care. The grapes are only picked by hand and then, before the stalks, a further bunch selection follows on the sorting table. The grapes are traditionally pressed with the feet after which fermentation takes place exclusively with natural yeasts in open wooden and/or concrete barrels at a controlled temperature of around 28 -30 C. Wood education for 18 months in 225 liter oak barrels (of which 10% new) and finally 8 months aging in the bottle. Only 8,000 bottles of this wine are produced per year.

This serious, impressive wine is perfect for a few more years and will develop even further. The wine has an intense ruby red color with light violet hints and has a deep and fine fruity bouquet (black currant, cherry, plum) and a hint of pepper and chocolate. Tannins are balanced & firm. Inviting long and soft aftertaste with oak, blackberry, tar, smoke, licorice and violets. Of course, this wine is also certified organic and has the “Suolo e Salute” certificate.

You really have to sit down for the Nambrot. Whether that is with fire – whether or not during a good conversation – or as a supervisor at a nice dinner. Can be served with dishes with beef, lamb and veal and with poultry. Also delicious with hard cheeses.
