The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve takes the distillery’s signature Speyside house style and adds a final maturation period in French Limousin oak the same wood used in Cognac production producing a meaningfully different expression from the 12-year, with more intensity, nutmeg spice, and a distinctive earthy depth that no other cask type produces in Scotch whisky.

The process begins with the standard Glenlivet approach: American and European oak maturation that builds the house’s characteristic vanilla, honey, and floral character over 15 years. A portion of that spirit is then transferred to French oak casks for a finishing period, where Limousin oak known for tight grain and high tannin adds spice, earthy complexity, and a slightly drier, more structured finish. The French oak proportion is deliberately controlled to enhance rather than overwhelm the Glenlivet character underneath.

Produced at the Glenlivet distillery in Ballindalloch, Speyside, using water from Josie’s Well on the estate. At 40% ABV it is approachable and well-suited to neat sipping or with a small amount of water to open the nose.

Tasting Notes

  • Finish: Medium-long, warm, and slightly drier than the 12-year with a faint earthy linger
