The Edition series was launched in 2015 to present The Macallan in a non-age-statement format that foregrounds cask selection and production craft over maturation time. Each Edition is a collaboration with a different creative partner from outside whisky Edition No. 1 with furniture designer Ilse Crawford, No. 2 with architect Rafael de Crdenas, No. 3 with fashion designer Jonathan Anderson, and No. 4 with perfumer Roja Dove.

Roja Doves involvement in Edition No. 4 was specifically focused on the aromatic architecture of the whisky using his perfumery expertise to identify and amplify the honey, cherry, and spice notes that define the editions character through targeted cask selection.
