The Boss Hog is WhistlePig’s annual collector release, and this thirteenth edition, The Golden Pharaoh, draws on ancient Egyptian design for both its liquid and its presentation. The straight rye begins in new American oak before its distinctive finish in barrels seasoned with Egyptian black honey and tiger nut, layering molasses, honey, toasted almond, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking spice, and black pepper over the whiskey’s rye-driven structure. Every bottle is drawn from a single barrel and bottled at proof, so strength varies slightly from barrel to barrel between 102.6 and 105 proof.
The presentation matches the ambition of the liquid: a pewter pharaoh topper etched with hieroglyphics, and a collector box that opens like a sealed tomb to reveal jewel-toned interior artwork and a “Journey to the Field of Rye” design. An NFC-authenticated back label adds registered ownership and verification for collectors.
