The color is mahogany. The nose is a huge honey and caramel bomb with hints of earthy herbs and sweet spices. There’s something of an apricot preserve note with caramel sauce drizzled and a fresh steeped french press on its way. The palate is so rich and easy up front, it’s cask strength isn’t immediately perceptible, but the broad mid is much denser. Dense stone fruit and roasted vanilla, with a chocolate dipped caramel ice cream finish.
Willett Distillery was established in 1936 by Thompson Willett, but the familys whiskey legacy began long before. Thanks to his father and grandfather, Thompson held a deep knowledge and respect for the craftsmanship involved in making fine whiskeys: Use the best ingredients available, pay close attention to the details then take a step back and give the whiskey time and space to develop character. Its a simple approach, but it seems to be working.
Willett Distillery is a Bourbon and rye whiskey producer in Bardstown, Kentucky. The Willett family has a strong history in the whiskey industry with members producing whiskey shortly after the Civil War. The business in its modern form was founded by Thompson and Johnny Willett in 1936 on the family farm. In 1984 , the company was purchased by Even Kulsveen, Thompson’s son-in-law forming Kentucky Bourbon Distillers Ltd. The brand remains within the family holdings.
