40 years. Remnant vatting. Hand-stitched calf-leather case. The most decorated single malt Glenfiddich has ever produced.
The Glenfiddich 40 Year is not simply old whisky it is the product of a proprietary aging technique called remnant vatting, used exclusively for this expression and by no other single malt distillery in the industry. The Malt Master hand-selects individual casks of at least 40 years, then marries them with whisky left over from the previous 40 Year vatting a continuous thread of aged spirit that accumulates character across multiple release cycles. The oldest component in any given batch has been aging for significantly longer than 40 years.
The accolades reflect it. Best of the Best single malt, Whisky Magazine, 2003. Trophy at both the ISC and IWSC, 2008 the first whisky ever to win both in the same year. Best Single Malt at the ISC, 2010. This is a bottle with a legitimate competitive record, not just a price point.
The presentation matches. Each bottle arrives in a hand-stitched calf-leather case with embossed print work and an intricately designed lock and key. It is one of the most considered presentations in the spirits world at any price.
When a batch of Glenfiddich 40 Year is assembled, a portion is held back and added to the next batch. This creates a continuous chain of aged spirit each release contains whisky that predates it, going back through every previous 40 Year release. It is Glenfiddich’s equivalent of a solera system, applied to single malt Scotch whisky at the 40-year age level. No other distillery does this.

The 40 Year adds a decade of additional maturation and the unique remnant vatting process, producing significantly greater complexity, a deeper flavor profile, and a presentation the calf-leather case that reflects its status.” } }, { “@type”: “Question”, “name”: “Is the Glenfiddich 40 Year a collector’s bottle?”, “acceptedAnswer”: { “@type”: “Answer”, “text”: “Yes, unambiguously. The combination of 40+ years of maturation, proprietary remnant vatting, multiple major award wins, and the hand-stitched calf-leather presentation make it one of the most collectible bottles in Scotch whisky. Each batch is limited by the nature of the production process.” } } ]}
