Kloa Kaua’i Dark Rum. Kloa Rum Company, Kalaheo, Kaua’i, Hawai’i twice-distilled in a vintage 1,210-gallon steam-powered copper pot still from pure Hawaiian cane sugar and ancient volcanic rainwater, the darkest and most dessert-forward expression in the Kloa lineup.

Kloa Rum Company was founded in 2009 as the first licensed rum distillery on Kaua’i, the island where Hawai’i’s commercial sugar industry was born in 1835. Every expression in the range is built on the same foundation: pure cane sugar combined with pristine rainwater filtered through the volcanic strata of Mount Wai’ale’ale, twice-distilled in a vintage copper pot still, and blended and bottled entirely on-site in Kalaheo. The Dark Rum takes that base and deepens it a warming, dessert-forward expression that showcases the richest character the distillery’s copper pot still can produce.

Where Kloa’s White and Gold rums are light and versatile, the Dark is indulgent and complex: vanilla, dark molasses, and sweet caramel dominate upfront, with a layer of hotter spices particularly clove providing depth and warmth. It is the natural choice for any recipe calling for dark rum that wants genuine Hawaiian provenance and the character of small-batch copper pot distillation.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Luxuriant vanilla, dark semi-sweet chocolate, and a hint of fresh espresso. Warming and inviting with dark molasses sweetness.
  • Palate: Gentle and approachable vanilla and dark molasses lead, followed by sweet caramel. A layer of hotter spices, particularly clove, adds depth and warms the mouth progressively. Potent vanilla and dark chocolate dominate throughout.
  • Finish: Smooth and clean with lingering espresso bitterness and a soft, warming spice. The clove accent carries into the close.
