Tanqueray Gin 1.75L. Cameronbridge Distillery, Scotland the bartender’s benchmark, built on four botanicals and an unchanged recipe since 1830, distilled four times, available in a 1.75L format ideal for home bars, large gatherings, and frequent cocktail making.
Charles Tanqueray opened his distillery in the Bloomsbury district of London in 1830 with a singular aim: to perfect gin. He rejected the prevailing fashion for heavy, sweet spirits and instead built his recipe around restraint and precision four botanicals only, each chosen to play a specific role. Juniper provides the foundational pine and citrus character. Coriander seed delivers a lemony, slightly peppery freshness. Angelica root adds an earthy dryness that gives London Dry its signature bite. Liquorice root provides a subtle sweetness that rounds and softens the finish without making the gin sweet. After distillation, the recipe passed to Charles’s son, then on through generations, eventually surviving the Blitz (only one of Tanqueray’s four pot stills survived, and it’s still in use today). Today it’s distilled four times at the Cameronbridge Distillery in Scotland.
The 1.75L bottle contains the identical spirit as the 750ml same recipe, same distillation, same proof. The larger format offers better value for those who go through Tanqueray regularly or who entertain frequently. Tanqueray’s four-botanical recipe remains the most-copied gin formula in the world and the baseline against which most London Dry gins are measured.
